Based on dozens of interviews with faculty and students, Making Climate Lawyers fills a gap in the literature on the intellectual history of climate change, most of which focuses on the history of climate science. Smith focuses instead on how the climate problem fits (or doesn't fit) into the structure of American law. While climate change came onto the policy agenda in the mid-1980s, Smith's research shows that it had little presence in the environmental law curriculum until about 15 years later. To understand why, Smith examines the barriers that environmental law professors faced, how they overcame those barriers, and how they created "climate law" as a domain of legal specialization. Smith uses this story as a lens through which to understand both the transformation of legal education since the 1980s and the nature of climate change as a policy problem"-- $c Provided by publisher. 650 0 $a Climatic changes $x History. $z United States $x History. 650 0 $a Climatic changes $x History. $z United States $x History. 650 0 $a Law schools $z United States $x History. 650 6 $a Facultes de droit $z Etats-Unis $x Histoire. 650 7 $a Climatic changes $x Law and legislation. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00864251 650 7 $a Climatic changes $x Study and teaching. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00864271 650 7 $a Law schools. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00994121 651 7 $a United States. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204155 655 7 $a History. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411628 776 08 $i Online version: $a Smith, Kimberly K. $t Making climate lawyers $d Lawrence : University Press of Kansas, 2024 $z 9780700636402 $w (DLC) 2023028996 830 0 $a Environment and society (University Press of Kansas) 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20240619012618.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=5D5112C42E0111EFA856D47D28ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
