Summary:
Kingdom of heaven: Balian, a young blacksmith, has lost his family and much of his faith. Destiny comes to him in the form of a great knight, Godfrey of Ibelin, a Crusader briefly home to France from fighting in the East. Revealing himself as Balian's father, Godfrey shows him the true meaning of knighthood and takes him on a journey across continents to the fabled Holy City of Jerusalem. There, Balian falls in love and finds redemption in a heroic fight against overwhelming forces to save his people and fulfill his destiny as a knight. Master and commander: the far side of the world (based on the novels of Patrick O'Brian): During the Napoleonic Wars, the H.M.S. Surprise, a British frigate, is under the command of Captain Jack Aubrey. Aubrey and the Surprise's current orders are to track and capture or destroy the Acheron, a French privateer. The Acheron is currently in the Atlantic off South America headed toward the Pacific to extend Napoleon's reach. Lucky Jack, as he is referred to by his crew, is well regarded by his men, who trust him implicitly, even after learning in the first devastating battle that the Acheron is bigger and faster, putting the Surprise at a disadvantage. The Captain's single-mindedness in this seemingly suicidal mission puts Aubrey at odds with the ship's doctor and naturalist, Stephen Maturin, his most trusted advisor and closest friend.
