Summary:
The current high school mathematics curriculum is out-of-date and not only fails to stimulate but increasingly exacerbates inequity by closing off options while failing to prepare the vast majority of students for the realities of citizenship and work in the twenty-first century. The intent of this book is to provide a stimulus for discussion, complete with examples, samples, and models for serious consideration by every high school mathematics department. New material must be accompanied by invigoration of teaching methods, assessments, and use of technology. This volume proposes changes that can serve as a starting point for collegial discussion, and the authors hope that after reading, reviewing, and reflecting on our ideas, it will stimulate change to more effectively serve the fifteen million students taking high school mathematics on any given school day.
