"News had spread that "the White Wolf ain't packin' no more." Jim-twin Allen had promised his beloved Snippets he would give up killing and give her his guns. He had been pardoned by the Governor, but if he kills again, he will be an outcast, and they will not be able to marry. The mysterious Black Hawk Gang terrorizes Beaverville. Their leader is Kid Moore, brother of Allen's dead enemy, Stinger Moore, who is set on revenge. Toothpick Jarrick goes to Jim-twin as the only one who can stop the Gang - but someone has learned of Toothpick's mission, and the Black Hawk Gang plans an ambush. But when things go wrong and Snippets takes a bullet meant for Jim, he can no longer honor his promise to her - it's time for the White Wolf to pick up his guns and seek revenge. He succeeds in bringing down the Black Hawks almost single-handedly. But when Jim gets himself in another desperate situation and thrown in prison, he writes to his brother Jack-twin and some fellow outlaws to come quickly, the White Wolf needs them.
