When a woman dying on a London street hands her a letter offering employment in the kitchens of Buckingham Palace, Isabella Waverly assumes the woman's identity in order to pursue her passion for creating culinary delights and escape the constrictions of life as a lowly servant. Bella is thrilled when she is chosen to accompany Queen Victoria to Nice, until the threat of blackmail shadows her to the Riviera, and a member of the queen's retinue falls ill and dies. Having prepared the royal guest's last meal, Bella is suspected of the poisonous crime.
