Summary:
Jamie, Adam and associates test Nikola Tesla's earthquake machine, a device that depends on resonance for its destructive power. They investigate the dangers of exploding lava lamps and of heating food in sealed cans and jars. They explore the chemistry of Mentos and Diet Coke and apply the principles to building a rocket, creating a column of flames, and creating a smoke bomb. They test the theory that the addition of even a minuscule amount of weight can seriously unbalance the rotors of a helicopter. They test if a snapped cable could cut a person in two, if sound can be recorded in the grooves of a turned clay pot, if the suction created by a passing train could pull a person off a platform, and if a functional glider can be built from concrete. They investigate the ability of a punctured compressed air cylinder to smash through a brick wall and the use of compressed air cylinders to power a boat, and they test gunpowder as an engine fuel.
