Summary:
The authors were interested in adapting the Book Club framework to address two important concerns. The first concern was to identify a way to connect students' Book Club activities using texts written for their age group to their guided reading activities using texts written at their instructional level. The second concern was to connect literacy instruction to the substantive study of other school subjects. Organizing students' learning around key thematic questions, the Book Club Plus framework is designed to help teachers coordinate their literacy activities, link them to their state literacy and related content area standards, and bring a sense of coherence to students' school reading, writing, and talk.
