From 1969 to its eventual demise in 1986, EMI would produce many of the key works of seventies and eighties British cinema, ranging from popular family dramas like The Railway Children (Lionel Jeffries, 1970) through to critically acclaimed arthouse successes like Britannia Hospital (Lindsay Anderson, 1982). However, EMI's role in these productions has been recorded only marginally, as footnotes in general histories of British cinema. The reasons for this critical neglect raise important questions about the processes involved in the creation of cultural canons and the definition of national culture. This book argues that EMI's amorphous nature as a transnational film company has led to its omission from this history and makes it an ideal subject to explore the 'limits' of British cinema. 610 20 $a EMI (Firm) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no97009953 610 27 $a EMI (Firm) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01532041 650 0 $a Motion pictures, British $x History and criticism $y 20th century. 650 7 $a Motion pictures, British. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01027489 648 7 $a 1900-1999 $2 fast 655 7 $a Criticism, interpretation, etc. $2 fast $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 $0 http://id.worldcat.org/fast/1411635 776 08 $i Electronic version: $a Moody, Paul. $t EMI films and the limites of British cinema. $d Cham : Palgrave Macmillan, 2018 $z 9783319948034 $w (OCoLC)1057550176 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20191126021016.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=F04A3C5E101A11EA8DA14E4D97128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
