When World War II ended, the three numbered air forces (the Fifth, Thirteenth and Seventh) under his command possessed 4,004 combat aircraft, 433 reconnaissance aircraft, and 922 transports. After being humbled by the Japanese in the Philippines in 1942, MacArthur and his air chief General George Kenney rebuilt the US aerial presence in the Pacific, helping Allied naval and ground forces to push back the Japanese Air Force, re-take the Philippines, and carry the war north towards the Home Islands. Following the end of World War II MacArthur was the highest military and political authority in Japan, and at the outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950 he was named as Commander in Chief, United Nations Command. In the ten months of his command his Far East Air Forces increased dramatically and saw the first aerial combat between jet fighters."-- $c Provided by publisher. 600 10 $a MacArthur, Douglas, $d 1880-1964 $x Military leadership. 610 10 $a United States. $b Air Force, 5th. $b Air Force, 5th. 610 10 $a United States. $b Air Force, 13th. $b Air Force, 13th. 610 10 $a United States. $b Air Force, 7th. $b Air Force, 7th. 650 0 $a World War, 1939-1945 $x Campaigns $z Pacific Area. 650 0 $a World War, 1939-1945 $x Aerial operations, American. 600 17 $a MacArthur, Douglas, $d 1880-1964. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00035285 610 17 $a United States. $b Air Force, 13th. $b Air Force, 13th. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00565225 610 17 $a United States. $b Air Force, 5th. $b Air Force, 5th. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00597620 610 17 $a United States. $b Air Force, 7th. $b Air Force, 7th. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00533691 611 27 $a World War (1939-1945) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01180924 650 7 $a Command of troops. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00869220 650 7 $a Military campaigns. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01710190 650 7 $a Military operations, Aerial $x American. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01710199 651 7 $a Pacific Area. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01243504 648 7 $a 1939-1945 $2 fast 941 $a 1 952 $l GOPG641 $d 20240710050423.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=8A904922311B11EA8C81054697128E48 994 $a C0 $b JIMInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
