BeruÂhmt wurde sie durch die Art und Inszenierung ihrer Akte. Anselm Adams bezeichnet sie als 'gro©te Aktfotografin' uÂberhaupt. Sie war eine der ersten Frauen, die den Frauenakt vom maÂnnlichen Blick emanzipierte, revolutionaÂr sind die beiden Fotos 'In the Box Vertical' und 'In the Box horizontal': der Akt im Pappkarton. In die Geschichte ging sie zudem ein durch ihre Studioaufnahmen, in denen sie unter raffiniert ausgekluÂgeltem Einsatz von Licht den Modellen und GegenstaÂnden Tiefe verlieh.
