The events surrounding the central confrontation in the film took place in apartheid South Africa in the late 1970's and early 1980's. It was a time of racial separation and strict government control. Censorship and police harassment were rife for those who dared to challenge the state. Racial mixing was prohibited at music concerts as South Africans grew up in racial separation and suspicion. Roger Lucey dared to challenge the injustices of the system through the songs he wrote. When his music became quite popular the security police intervened. In July 1995 former security branch policeman, Paul Erasmus published startling revelations about his apartheid-era assignment to stop Lucey's music. 600 10 $a Lucey, Roger. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2014081180 600 10 $a Erasmus, Paul. 650 0 $a Protest songs $z South Africa $x History and criticism $y 20th century. 650 0 $a Music $x Censorship $z South Africa. 651 0 $a South Africa $x Social conditions $y 1961-1994. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85125496 650 0 $a Musicians $z South Africa $v Biography. 655 7 $a Documentary films $z South Africa. $2 gsafd 655 7 $a Biographies. $2 lcgft $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026049 700 1 $a Drewett, Michael. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2006005358 700 1 $a Mitchell, Doug. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n2002036143 700 1 $a Jury, Brendan. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2012065318 700 1 $a Lucey, Roger. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2014081180 710 2 $a Freemuse (Organization) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2004107118 710 2 $a Cutting Grooves (Organization) 710 1 $a Denmark. $b Udenrigsministeriet. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n81132263 710 1 $a Sweden. $b Styrelsen foÌr internationellt utvecklingssamarbete. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no97027154 941 $a 1 945 $a dvv 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20180124015731.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=AD731D3A00D411E888826E0497128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
