It also examines the regulatory forces that tried to suppress non-medical drug use, in both their medical and juridical forms. Drug subcultures were previously thought to have begun as part of the post-war youth culture, but in fact they existed from at least the 1930s. In this book, two networks of drug users are explored, one emerging from the disaffected youth of the aristocracy, the other from the night-time economy of London's West End. Their drug use was caught up in a kind of dance whose steps represented cultural conflicts over identity and the modernism and Victorianism that coexisted in interwar Britain"--Back cover. 650 0 $a Drug abuse $z London $z London $x History $y 20th century. 650 0 $a Drug control $z London $z London $x History $y 20th century. 650 0 $a Narcotics $z London $z London $x History $y 20th century. 650 0 $a Drug abuse $x Law and legislation $z Great Britain. 650 0 $a Narcotic laws $z Great Britain. 650 7 $a Drug abuse. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00898480 650 7 $a Drug abuse $x Law and legislation. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00898504 650 7 $a Drug control. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01032891 650 7 $a Narcotic laws. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01032848 650 7 $a Narcotics. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01032860 651 7 $a England $z London. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204271 651 7 $a Great Britain. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204623 648 7 $a 1900-1999 $2 fast 655 7 $a History. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411628 776 08 $i ebook version : $z 9783319947709 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20200318012309.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=67CCD4B2462211E9A3F20F6897128E48Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
