The book calls for more holistic place-based action to address the social and environmental crisis, deploying the Deep Place approach as one contribution to the toolbox of actions that will underpin the UN Decade of Action towards the Sustainable Development Goals. The authors suggest that 'place' is a critical window on how to conceive a resolution to the multiple and overlapping crises. As well as diagnosing the problem (the world as it is), the book will also offer a normative advocacy (the world as it could/should be and proposed pathways to get there). A series of 'Deep Place' case studies from the UK, Australia and Vanuatu help to illustrate this approach. Ultimately, the book argues for the need for a real and green 'new deal' and identifies what this should be like. It suggests that a new economic order, whilst eventually inevitable, requires radical change. This will not be easy, but will be essential given the current impasse, caused, not least by the conjunction of carbon-based, neo-liberal capitalism in crisis and the multifactorial global ecological crisis. Ultimately, it concludes, there is a need to develop a new model of 'regenerative collectivism' to overcome these crises. This book will be of interest to academics, policy practitioners, and social and climate justice advocates/activists"-- $c Provided by publisher. 650 0 $a Sustainable urban development. 650 0 $a Equality. 650 0 $a Sustainable development. 650 0 $a Urban ecology (Sociology) 650 0 $a City planning $x Environmental aspects. 650 0 $a Climatic changes. 650 2 $a Climate Change $0 (DNLM)D057231 650 6 $a Urbanisme durable. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0305479 650 6 $a Developpement durable. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0207835 650 6 $a Ecologie urbaine. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0065419 650 6 $a Climat $x Changements. $0 (CaQQLa)201-0021131 650 7 $a sustainable development. $2 aat $0 (CStmoGRI)aat300180396 650 7 $a urban environments. $2 aat $0 (CStmoGRI)aat300229002 650 7 $a climate change. $2 aat $0 (CStmoGRI)aat300379818 650 7 $a City planning $x Environmental aspects. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00862209 650 7 $a Climatic changes. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00864229 650 7 $a Equality. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00914456 650 7 $a Sustainable development. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01139731 650 7 $a Sustainable urban development. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01744955 650 7 $a Urban ecology (Sociology) $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01733718 700 1 $a Axinte, Lorena, $e author. 700 1 $a Lang, Mark $c (Honorary university associate), $e author. 700 1 $a Marsden, Terry, $e author. 776 08 $i Online version: $a Adamson, David (Honorary professor) $t Sustainable places $d Milton Park, Abingdon, Oxon ; New York, NY : Routledge, 2023 $z 9781003221555 $w (DLC) 2022011357 830 0 $a Routledge explorations in environmental studies. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117031334.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=24B07900F47811EDA3FB15433FECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
