Part spoken theater and part musical drama, Legrand's work sets excerpts of Jean-Baptiste Lully's Phaéton to a narrative about a troupe of musicians in the city of Lyon who try to rescue their failing opera company from financial collapse. Based on actual events, La chute de Phaéton cleverly transforms Lully's moral lessons on the disastrous consequences of hubris into a scathing commentary on the opera industry--and on the genre of opera itself. The musical portion amounts to approximately thirty minutes of performance time and includes dances, choruses, récitatifs, and airs, making it an ideal tool for introducing students to French baroque music as well as for offering an opportunity of creative exploration for those more experienced with the repertoire."--Publisher's website. 546 $a French words, also printed separately as text with English translation by Natasha Roule. 546 $b Staff notation. 504 $a Includes introduction in English and bibliographical references. 650 0 $a Operas $v Scores. 650 0 $a Operas $v Librettos. 650 0 $a Musical parodies. 650 7 $a Musical parodies. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01765249 650 7 $a Operas $x Librettos. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01046219 650 7 $a Operas $x Scores. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01046228 655 7 $a Art music. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01920007 655 7 $a Librettos. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01692883 655 7 $a Musical parodies. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01920252 655 7 $a Operas. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01726688 655 7 $a Scores. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01692898 655 7 $a Operas. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Art music. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Scores. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Musical parodies. $2 lcgft 655 7 $a Librettos. $2 lcgft 700 1 $a Roule, Natasha, $e translator. $e translator. 700 12 $i Based on (work): $a Lully, Jean-Baptiste, $d 1632-1687. $t PhaeÌton. 700 12 $i Container of (work): $a Legrand, Marc-Antoine, $d 1673-1728. $t Chute de PhaeÌton (Libretto) 700 12 $i Container of (expression): $a Legrand, Marc-Antoine, $d 1673-1728. $t Chute de PhaeÌton (Libretto). $l English. 830 0 $a Recent researches in the music of the Baroque Era ; $v v. 233. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117011208.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=8AA51692664511EDB99D19AA23ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
