Researchers on the grant adopted a critical social science perspective grounded in the imperative that the research should be relevant to government and civil society partners in the field. This book builds on the knowledge developed during the course of the grant and asks the question, "What is the future of open data?" The contributors' insights into the future of open data combine observations from five years of research about the Canadian open data community with a critical perspective on what could and should happen as open data efforts evolve. Each of the chapters in this book addresses different issues and each is grounded in distinct disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspectives. The opening chapter reflects on the origins of open data in Canada and how it has progressed to the present date, taking into account how the Indigenous data sovereignty movement intersects with open data. A series of chapters address some of the pitfalls and opportunities of open data and consider how the changing data context may impact sources of open data, limits on open data, and even liability for open data. Another group of chapters considers new landscapes for open data, including open data in the global South, the data priorities of local governments, and the emerging context for rural open data."-- $c Provided by publisher 530 $a Issued also in electronic formats. 650 0 $a Electronic government information. 650 0 $a Electronic public records. 650 0 $a Geospatial data. 650 0 $a Government information. 650 0 $a Government information $x Access control. 650 0 $a Freedom of information. 650 0 $a Transparency in government $x Technological innovations. 650 6 $a Information sur l'Etat electronique. 650 6 $a Archives publiques electroniques. 650 6 $a Donnees geospatiales. 650 6 $a Information sur l'Etat. 650 6 $a Information sur l'Etat $x Controle. $x Controle. 650 6 $a Liberte d'information. 650 6 $a Gouvernement ouvert $x Innovations. 650 7 $a Electronic government information. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00907235 650 7 $a Electronic public records. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00907430 650 7 $a Freedom of information. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00934017 650 7 $a Geospatial data. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01741194 650 7 $a Government information. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00945364 650 7 $a Government information $x Access control. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00945365 700 1 $a Robinson, Pamela $q (Pamela J.), $d 1968- $e editor. 700 1 $a Scassa, Teresa, $e editor. 776 08 $i Online version: $t Future of open data. $d Ottawa, Ontario : University of Ottawa Press, 2022 $z 9780776629759 $z 9780776629759 $w (OCoLC)1264098908 830 0 $a Law, technology, and media 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117014146.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=4ACDA984851711EEB4A9908744ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
