The world to come in Pahlavi literature and the Babylonian Talmud. 520 $a "This book offers a comparative study between a number of Talmudic and Middle Persian narratives. The present work seeks first and foremost to examine Talmudic narratives in their Iranian context, and secondly to examine the Talmudic background of Iranian narratives where applicable. The first and second chapters will offer an analysis of the alteration of historical and biblical figures in the Bavli (the Babylonian Talmud) based on the influence of Iranian mythical and historical figures, while the third chapter will provide an account of how Iranists can learn from Talmudic studies. Here we suggest that a Talmudic narrative may have encouraged Zoroastrian priests to compose an extensive work of religious literature, namely the Arda Wiraz-namag, an idea which will be further explored in the appendix. The relationship between Iranian and Jewish materials in the Talmudic era is merely a piece of a larger puzzle, a piece that a number of scholars-such as Elman, Secunda, Mokhtarian, Her-man, Kiel, Kalmin, to name a few-have recently begun to focus on. By focusing on Talmudic narratives that have not yet been sufficiently examined for Iranian themes and ideas, this book represents a contribution towards piecing this puzzle together"-- $c Provided by publisher. 630 00 $a Talmud $x Iranian influences. 630 00 $a Talmud $x Criticism, Narrative. 630 00 $a Talmud $v Comparative studies. 630 07 $a Talmud. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01356431 651 0 $a Iran $x Jewish influences. $x Jewish influences. 650 0 $a Zoroastrianism $v Comparative studies. 650 0 $a Persian literature $x History and criticism. 650 0 $a Judaism $x Zoroastrianism. $x Zoroastrianism. 650 0 $a Zoroastrianism $x Judaism. $x Judaism. 650 7 $a Civilization $x Jewish influences. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00862927 650 7 $a Interfaith relations. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01353343 650 7 $a Judaism. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00984280 650 7 $a Persian literature. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01058528 650 7 $a Zoroastrianism. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01184829 651 7 $a Iran. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204889 655 7 $a Comparative studies. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01423767 655 7 $a Criticism, interpretation, etc. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411635 830 0 $a Bibliotheca Iranica. $p Zoroastrian studies series ; $v no. 5. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20220526014613.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=F15AF7B09F4211EBBB7E29A634ECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
