In 1940, American was still staggering its way out of the Great Depression and war clouds were rolling in from Europe. In the early months of that year, the upcoming Presidential campaign spotlight turned to perhaps the unlikeliest but certainly the most entertaining, candidate of all. On February 28, 1940, Gracie Allen declared her pioneering female candidacy for President of the United States on the Surprise Party ticket. Politics was perfect for Gracie's particular brand of logical illogic; and from the very start her campaign caught the public fancy. This quirky collection includes 12 surviving "campaign" episodes of the classic Burns & Allen radio program, as well as "campaign stops" by Gracie on the Jack Benny and Fibber McGee & Molly radio programs.
