A tornado in 1910 has left many children in Daisy, Oklahoma homeless. Rena Jewel, 38 and single, feels a letter from Daisy is a sign from God, that there is something important there for her and to do and she promises to help. Sheriff Gene Wyatt is struggling to control the 17 orphans at the orphanage plus his own two boys so he is happy to hear help is on the way. When Sheriff Wyatt meets Rena he assumes Rena is too pretty and genteel to be up to the challenge. But, Rena slowly gains the children's respect and obedience and helps them plant a garden. When the new orphanage director arrives, Rena must decide whether she can leave town, the children and the man she has come to love.
