Helen Bradley finds herself mystified over the ups and downs of her second marriage. Supposedly retired from his career with the FBI, her husband has become sullen and secretive, and after a disturbing phone call, he heads off to Portland with hardly a good-bye. Soon after his departure comes the news of Ethan Crane's sudden death, the second Bay Village mayor to die in a matter of months. When Helen's best friend, Rosie Monahan, is implicated in the mayor's demise, Helen determines to shed the light of justice on the layers of mystery surrounding his death, and to fight for reconciliation with the man she loves.
