Summary:
Set in Russia in 1927 this is the tale of a former aristocrat now reduced to the statues of a clerk by the Soviet regime. When he learns that his dying mother-in-law sewed a fortune in jewels into a dining room chair, he sets off across Russia to find the chair -- pursued by an opportunist, a priest, and his former servant.
