The statue that included this remarkably lifelike head of a priest, who was probably a citizen of ancient Memphis, may have been damaged when the Persians conquered Egypt in 343 B.C. before it was ritually buried in a temple complex dedicated to the worship of the sacred Apis bull .... After almost two millennia, the head was excavated by August Mariette, a founding figure in French archaeology, under a permit from the Ottoman Pasha. Sent to France as part of a collection of antiquities assembled for the inimitable Bonaparte prince known as Plon-Plon, it found a home in his faux Pompeain palace. After disappearing again, it resurfaced in the personal collection of Edward Perry Warren, a turn-of-the twentieth-century American aesthete, who sold it to the Museum of Fine Arts."--book jacket. 650 0 $a Portrait sculpture, Egyptian. 650 0 $a Priests $z Egypt $v Portraits. 600 10 $a Mariette, Auguste, $d 1821-1881. 600 10 $a Warren, Edward Perry, $d 1860-1928 $x Private collections. 600 10 $a Bonaparte, NapoleÌon-Joseph-Charles-Paul, $c Prince, $d 1822-1891. 610 20 $a Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. 650 0 $a Excavations (Archaeology) $z Egypt $x History. 710 2 $a Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20191213021452.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=745FE54255EF11E58B7A61D1DAD10320Initiate Another SILO Locator Search
