Summary:
Set in Canada in 1860, Lyddie is the triumphant tale of a young woman struggling to save her family and the farm she loves after they are forced to separate due to excessive debt and strife. Determined and frightened, Lyddie, now alone, sets off on a heroic journey to find work. After much struggle, she finds a job in a cotton mill where she encounters a whole new set of challenges, not just as a young person on her own but, as a woman. Her experience takes her on another journey, one of self discovery.
