Summary:
A comprehensive, richly illustrated catalog will be published for the exhibition, with an extensive interview with the art collector Uli Sigg, in which he comments on his time as an ambassador and on the reasons for his collection. Thanks to the cooperation of South Korean authors, the topic of the border is illuminated in (South) Korean contemporary art. Proven experts explain the iconography and methodology of North Korean art and explain the ideological function of socialist realism with North Korean characteristics (Juche). In addition, the artists themselves have their say in interviews. The publication is structured as a comprehensive companion book along the exhibition and, in addition to art historical contributions on the subject, offers comprehensive contextualizations of the works on display.00The Swiss art collector, consultant and manager Uli Sigg (*1946) began collecting contemporary Chinese art in the 1970s, and in doing so he assembled the world's largest and most important collection. During his time as Swiss ambassador to China and North Korea, he succeeded in acquiring some works from the art academies there.00Exhibition: Kunstmuseum Bern, Switzerland (30.04. ? 05.09.2021).
