Thomas J. Elpel lives the dream of a lifetime, privileged to carve a dugout canoe with Churchill Clark, the great-great-great-great grandson of Captain William Clark. Together they whittled a 10,000 lb. Douglas fir log down to a 500+ lb. canoe. Tom then led a five month "Missouri River Corps of Rediscovery Expedition," paddling the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail from Three Forks, Montana to St. Louis, Missouri. Throughout the journey, Tom wrote a weekly column that was published by newspapers across several states. Five Month On The Missouri River expands on the story in the papers, with more text and hundreds of photos chronicling the adventure.
