Poems, with mounted collage. Cover title. "This book, Pense-bête, was written by Marcel Broodthaers between 1962-63 and printed in January 1964 [Brussels : H. Kumps]. Soon after, Broodthaers collaged some of the text with a variety of colored paper. That spring, he planted the last packaged set (50 copies) of Pense-bête into plaster, effectuating one of the most pivotal works of his career--Le pense-bête. Published as a replica in 2016 by Granary Books in New York City in an edition of 100 numbered copies, modeled on several examples of the collage version with the assistance of Diane Bertolo. Translated into English by Elizabeth Zuba. Maria Gilissen Broodthaers."--Back cover, with copy no. in pencil. "In some cases, the paper obstructs part of the poem and in others, one may lift the paper to read the text underneath. ... Elizabeth Zuba translated the poems into English in collaboration with Maria Gilissen Broodthaers; the edition was produced by Steve Clay and Diane Bertolo, printed by Philip Gallo at The Hermetic Press and bound by Judith Ivry. ... Pense-Bête is published on the occasion of 'Marcel Broodthaers: a retrospective' at the Museum of Modern Art, February 14 - May 15, 2016."--Publisher's website.
