Summary:
While Africa as a continent, which holds strong to its patriarchal cultural principles and practices, is known for violent abuse of women, including state-sanctioned abuse, violence against women, particularly those of African descent, is a global epidemic. This collection provides insightful discussions and analyses of gender violence using data from sixteen countries spread over four continents, sharing a variety of experiences and perspectives. This approach provides a broader context with an international lens for examining the problem, policies and practice responses (if any), as it impacts women of African origin in different parts of the world. The book is of value to various disciplines including African studies, gender studies, sociology, and criminology.
