Notes:
Exploration of themes of the complexity of sexual identity, gender, femininity, and the Doppelganger or "double" through the photographs of Brazilian artist Adelaide Ivánova. With her camera, the photographer followed the life of a transgender couple, two transgender boys Miki and Kai--formerly Nadine and Janina--both born girls. Barely past puberty, they began hormone therapy and sexual reassignment. They try to look more and more like each other, in an attempt to blur the boundaries of sexual identity. Ivanova's camera recognizes the couple's capacity for autotomy, the capacity some animals have to transform or adapt their bodies to adjust to the environment and protect themselves against predators.
