Hallie is a fictional character, but she represents many young girls who left their first home with their family and found new homes further west on the prairie. Other named characters are also fictional, but they, too, represent the many pioneers of the Western Movement. The Stage is Coming! Hallie's Stage Stop Journey, is inspired by an Iowa stage stop. Stagecoach routes crisscrossed Iowa primarily from 1837 to 1874. Short routes ran into the late 70s until railroads took over many, but not all, travel needs. Each stop was different; stops varied in the types of structures and the services offered to travelers, but essentially, they all met the purpose of providing a resting place for weary souls as they made their way to the West. Some travelers rode in stage coaches, while some came in covered wagons or open wagons, and occasionally, on horseback. Research, personal recollections and stories told by others helped in the development of this book.
