As orphans, Henry, Violet, Jessie and Benny Alden once lived on their own and set up house in an abandoned boxcar. Now they have a wonderful new family life with their grandfather and are spending the summer exploring their own private island. The island is home to a mysteriously talented stranger who keeps his real name a secret from the Alden children. This visitor's true identity is not all that's revealed to the Aldens in a summer filled with fun and adventure on Surprise Island.
