Summary:
The history of Kashmir is a story of long and bloody struggle to preserve its separate identity and to attain freedom from the yoke of the colonial powers. Jammu & Kashmir has always been considered as paradise on earth and every one had an eye and desired to have its control. Initially the Mughals, followed by the Sikhs and finally the Britishers had ruled the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The British Empire while departing left Jammu & Kashmir in limbo, which became a main source of friction between India and Pakistan.
