They show an intense concern to restore the proper discipline of clerical life after the chaos brought about by the Arab invasions. The rules for the laity show a concern to secure obedience to the Church's rules about marriage, proper respect for sacred space, and the suppression of customs of pagan origin. Particular interest attaches to the canons that express disapproval of certain customs of the Western Church and of the Armenian Church. Was this an attempt to impose Byzantine hegemony, or simply a revulsion at customs that seemed wrong? The Byzantine emperor tried repeatedly to get the Pope to give the new canons the stamp of his approval; his failure marks an important stage in the mounting divergence between the Greek and the Roman Churches. The translation is accompanied by full annotation, while the introduction sets the council in its historical context, in both the history of the early medieval world and the development of Eastern canon law. 540 $a Current Copyright Fee: GBP25.00 $c 0. $5 Uk 505 00 $g 1. $t Texts Cited in the Acts. $g 1. $t The Council and its Setting -- $g 2. $t Eastern Canon Law and the Quinisext Council -- $g 3. $t The Message of the Canons -- $g 4. $t Justinian II and Armenia -- $g 5. $t The Roman Reaction -- $g 6. $t Later Reception in East and West -- $g 7. $t Manuscripts and Editions -- $t Date List of Canons, AD 314-870 -- $t The Headings of the Quinisext Canons -- $t List of the Quinisext Canons in Thematic Sequence -- $t The Conciliar Acts: Translation and Commentary -- $g I. $t The Address to the Emperor -- $g II. $t The Canons -- $g III. $t The Subscriptions -- $g 1. $t Texts Cited in the Acts. 611 20 $a Quinisext Synod $d (692 : $c Constantinople) 611 27 $a Quinisext Synod $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01407825 611 27 $a Quinisext Synod $d (692 : $c Constantinople) $2 nli 650 0 $a Church history $y Middle Ages, 600-1500 $v Sources. 650 0 $a Canon law $x History $y To 1500 $v Sources. 650 7 $a Canon law $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00845910 650 7 $a Church history $x Sources $x Sources $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01711207 650 7 $a Church history $y Middle Ages, 600-1500 $v Sources. $2 nli 650 7 $a Canon law $x History $y To 1500 $v Sources. $2 nli 648 7 $a To 1500 $2 fast 655 7 $a History $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411628 655 7 $a Sources $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01423900 700 1 $a Price, Richard, $d 1947 December 10- $e translator. $e translator. 711 22 $a Quinisext Synod $d (692 : $c Constantinople). $t Canons. $l English. $s (Price) 830 0 $a Translated texts for historians ; $v v. 74. 941 $a 1 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20220526015402.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=AB059968CF3111EB9A1890BA3BECA4DBInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
