The volume investigates the claims (which have often not been substantiated by quantitative data in the literature and have tended to focus on particular genres of political discourse) that there is a correlation between a higher degree of religiosity in Republican political discourse and voting preferences for the party and that Democratic politicians should engage in similar discourse toward "closing" the gap. The book adopts a keyword approach, using such techniques as collocation analyses, concordance reading, and Bible-specific N-gram identification, toward the study of a corpus of general campaign speeches over a 50-year period, and links findings from this data with social and cultural contextual factors to provide a more informed understanding of rhetorical patterns in religiously laden political language. 650 0 $a Political oratory $z United States. 650 0 $a Discourse analysis $x Political aspects $z United States. 650 0 $a Presidential candidates $z United States $x Language. 650 0 $a Religion and politics $z United States. 650 0 $a Political parties $z United States. 776 08 $i ebook version : $z 9780429638459 830 0 $a Routledge advances in corpus linguistics 941 $a 1 952 $l USUX851 $d 20200204024614.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=1448EC822DF711EAB868BF0597128E48 994 $a C0 $b IWAInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
