Born in Baltimore, Marshall faced racial segregation at school, but he worked his way up and earned his law degree from Howard University, where he met Charles Hamilton Houston. He followed Houston to New York to serve the NAACP and argued cases as an attorney. He argued more than thirty-two cases before the Supreme Court-more than anyone else in history. And eventually, he argued against laws that justified Jim Crow segregation-and won. He became the first African American man to serve on the Supreme Court, and he served from 1967-1991. The biography series begins with six books (see below). Unlike other biographies which tell a person's life chronologically and is only about that person's contributions, THE MAKING OF AMERICA series links the stories of individuals to create a single overarching story of America's growth and maturity. Each story becomes more interesting when fit into the larger narrative; however each biography is also a stand-alone title."-- $c Provided by publisher. 600 10 $a Marshall, Thurgood, $d 1908-1993 $v Juvenile literature. 610 10 $a United States. $b Supreme Court $v Juvenile literature. $v Juvenile literature. 650 0 $a Judges $z United States $v Juvenile literature. $v Juvenile literature. 650 0 $a African American judges $v Juvenile literature. $v Juvenile literature. 600 17 $a Marshall, Thurgood, $d 1908-1993. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00013977 610 17 $a United States. $b Supreme Court. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00529481 650 7 $a African American judges. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00799211 650 7 $a Judges. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst00984490 651 7 $a United States. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01204155 655 7 $a Biographies. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01919896 655 7 $a Juvenile works. $2 fast $0 (OCoLC)fst01411637 776 08 $i Online version: $a Kanefield, Teri, $t Thurgood marshall $d New York : Abrams Books for Young Readers, 2020. $z 9781683358305 $w (DLC) 2019024611 941 $a 7 952 $l GMPD771 $d 20230210023038.0 952 $l GEPG771 $d 20210722063024.0 952 $l JMPC081 $d 20210625010232.0 952 $l TYPH572 $d 20201007082722.0 952 $l YKPE532 $d 20200717014255.0 952 $l BAPH771 $d 20200617010137.0 952 $l SAPG074 $d 20200507010729.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=0DE7BCEA902811EAAF12331197128E48 994 $a Z0 $b LJWInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
