Its basic structure, namely providing bases in exchange for the guarantee of US security of Japan, however, remains unchanged. Drawing on previously undisclosed confidential documents and new research developments on the issue of secret agreements which were brought to light during the Ministry of Foreign Affairs investigation in 2009-10, the author carefully depicts the sensitive negotiations and diplomatic finesse behind the establishment and revision of the Japan-US Security Treaty, highlighting the challenges experienced by the two countries to promote mutuality then and later, and adding a new chapter with updated notes for his revised 2020 edition. Examining the far-reaching implications of these new historical materials, he puts forward the pressing question: What should be the future of Japan-US security cooperation? 651 0 $a Japan $x Defenses. 630 00 $a Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the United States of America and Japan $d (1960 January 19) $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n84120825 651 0 $a United States $x Military relations $z Japan. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2007100061 651 0 $a Japan $x Military relations $z United States. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008115626 650 0 $a Military assistance, American $z Japan. $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh2008107793 710 2 $6 880-03 $a Nihon Kokusai Mondai KenkyuÌjo, $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n50064644 $e translator. 880 2 $6 710-03 $a æ¥æ¬å½éåé¡ç 究æ, $0 http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n50064644 $e translator. 941 $a 2 952 $l OVUX522 $d 20231117020651.0 952 $l USUX851 $d 20220706013520.0 956 $a http://locator.silo.lib.ia.us/search.cgi?index_0=id&term_0=8E549258E23911EC9D80461122ECA4DB 994 $a C0 $b IWAInitiate Another SILO Locator Search
