Summary:
Ten minutes of unedited color film footage believed to have been produced by the State University of Iowa, Extension Unit, Bureau of Audio-Visual Instruction in 1939. The film opens with scenes of Grant Wood with art students who are sketching and painting various works in a studio with a plywood wall. The works pinned to the wall include sketches, unfinished murals, and individual art works. After a short scene of the University of Iowa Art Building, Grant Wood is shown sitting at a table with two unidentified men, the man on the left is believed to be State University of Iowa School of Fine Arts director Earl E. Harper, the man in the center is probably University of Iowa music professor Lawrence Tibbett. Final scenes are believed to be film of the art exhibit held at the Iowa Memorial Union in July 1939, as part of the Fine Arts Festival held at the University of Iowa. In these scenes Grant Wood and Tibbet[?] examine works by Wood, including "American Gothic", "Fall Plowing", "Spring Planting", "Woman with Plants", "Stone City", "Birthplace of Herbert Hoover", "Old Shoes", "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere", a portrait of John B. Turner, "Woman Pioneer", "Arnold Comes of Age", "Portrait of Nan", "New Road", and "Haying".
