Summary:
"Ethics and Foreign Policy There is a robust literature on ethics and IR, most of it concerned with how foreign policy ought to be formulated and implemented. This project is in large part a reaction to the barbaric policies of the axis powers in World War II, the brutal suppression of states, ethnic groups, and freedom of expression by the Soviet Union, and the destructive excesses of US foreign policy in the Cold War and in its aftermath. The last includes military coups against popularly elected governments; military interventions, some of them resulting in long and costly wars; bombing and artillery barrages that produced high numbers of civilian casualties; support for right-wing dictators who behaved brutally toward their opposition, and the rendition and torture of captives, among them innocent non-combatants"-- Provided by publisher.
