He sees it as an escape from the stormy relationship with Eva, with whom he has a daughter. But before he leaves, he visits Chente's doctor for help with abdominal pain. The doctor suggests hypnosis, and Erasmus eventually becomes uncertain about what he told the doctor during the treatment. At the same time, he is becoming increasingly paranoid as he recalls more and more of his past life in El Salvador.
