Summary:
Saint Vitus is one of the most popular saints of the Christian tradition. The importance and diffusion of his cult, especially during the Middle Ages, are attested in many European countries that have a church or small chapel consecrated to his cult or some relic jealously guarded for centuries. During the Middle Ages, devotion to the holy martyr spread rapidly in the major European cities which claimed of possessing his relics; groups of faithful from difference backgrounds went to the most important shrines consecrated to his cult as well as to the small rural chapels present in Italy, Saxony, Bohemia, Germany and throughout Europe. ...
