Summary:
Marina Abramovic fascinates her international audience with performances, films and, most recently, her opera project 7 Deaths of Maria Callas. Following in the tradition of European mysticism, over the past five decades this pioneer of performance art has developed an undogmatic individual approach to the transcendent that expands the religious traditions by adding elements of shamanism, alchemy and Buddhism. The exhibition in the Kunsthalle Tu˜bingen curated by Nicole Fritz in close collaboration with Marina Abramovic and her studio is the first to be devoted to the spiritual aspects of the artist's work by means of a selection of her major works. The accompanying catalogue brings together interdisciplinary essays, authored by a range of subject experts, which provide new insights into the artist's work.
