Summary:
Tharparkar, despite its backwardness and difficult terrain, has remained a source of attraction for its inhabitants as well as outsiders and travelers. That is why the bards of the area and poets of other areas depicted Thar and Parkar in a very beautiful language. Shaikh Ayaz (1923-1997), a great poet of Sindh, has communicated much more through his poetry and prose. He visited Thar for a very brief time along with his friends. He immersed in the society and tried to decode the message of nature written on the beautiful tablet of sand dunes and the flat area of Parkar riveted with the mighty Karoonjhar. He observed the very tough life of the Thari people during the 1960s. He discussed folklore with "sughars," listened to folk songs and watched folk dances. Ayaz tried to narrate all of the themes in his poetry and writings depicted in the poetry and mythology of Thar. His poetry book "Akan Neera Phulliya" contains most of the poetry not only on Thar but also with the use of specific terminology pertaining to the history, geography, flora and fauna and culture of Thar. This book is a humble attempt to present the message of Ayaz in English to create a wider access to his writing.-- Preface.
