The peak of the European colonization of Africa in the nineteenth century coincided with the beginning of the codification of international humanitarian law and national military law. From the middle of the 19th to the middle of the 20th century, the author examines the development of the applicability and application of these rules in armed conflicts between European colonial powers and the non-European population. The focus of the investigation is on the regions of today's Namibia, Congo, Kenya and Algeria.--Publisher.
