Summary:
"This book tells the story of search and rescue (SAR) operations in Vietnam, focusing on the underrepresented year of 1972-the last year of the war in which US forces were still engaged in combat. Rescue, or at least the promise of rescue, was fundamental to the American soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines still engaged in the war. Darrel Whitcomb has uncovered a trove of rescue stories: stories of soldiers cut off from their units; advisors trapped with allied forces; contract pilots ready to do rescues in Laos; special operators in Laos, or Cambodia, or North Vietnam, or even in the hinterlands of South Vietnam. Taken together, they present a larger message, one of national commitment to bring our men home from that war."-- Provided by publisher.
