Disaster strikes a few days after Suzanna returns to her southern hometown to visit Aunt May. After the recent breakup of an engagement, Suzanna searches for a new start with more meaningful work and a place to belong. In the beautiful but class-conscious town, lonely people share the need for a caring community outside the old southern establishment. Her widowed aunt, two homeless men, a single young mother and two lonesome bachelors all add complications to Suzanna's homecoming.
