Summary:
The incidence of congestive heart failure (CHF) is increasing in the elderly population. Despite major advances in technology and the collaborative care in managing CHF, healthcare costs continue escalate. A proposal to improve the current telehealth program in managing patients with CHF was presented to the Bay Pines Veteran Affairs and the VA Fort Myers Outpatient Clinic. This proposal included comprehensive patient education and utilization of standardized CHF treatment. Prior researches on CHF treatment modalities, and the methodology of the proposed program were presented to the VA's Research and Development Department. The VA considered this proposal a research study and recommended conduction further studies to validate effectiveness of the proposed program.
