Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., John Lewis and other foot soldiers risked their lives staging marches, sit-ins, Freedom Rides and bold attempts to vote during the Civil Rights Movement in order to change America. Countless women and men worked during the period to dismantle Jim Crow segregation laws that had kept Black people second-class citizens for centuries. Travel the United States Civil Rights Trail across the South and beyond to encounter riveting stories at these historic American landmarks. The trail is a collection of churches, schools, courthouses and private homes where selfless individuals advanced freedom and social justice in the 1950s and 1960s.
