Notes:
For vocal soloists (SSATB), mixed chorus (SSATB) and orchestra. Premiered in Berlin 1772, this work sets a poetic retelling of the death of Christ, interpolated with movements based on other texts. Much of the music is based on his 1769 St. Matthew Passion. This edition is based primarily on the composer's house copy, mostly in the hand of a copyist. Figured bass unrealized. Facsimile reproduced from holograph. Preface and critical commentary in English. Includes bibliographical references.
