Karabo has survived the 1994 genocide against Tutsis that claimed the lives of his father and younger siblings. He is now left alone among the wounded hearts in Rwanda, and does not know the whereabouts of his mother. When Karabo went to live with his grandfather, who is a colonel in the new army, he meets Shema, another genocide victim among his grandfather's young bodyguards. Shema's smile shakes him, and Karabo wants to surrender his heart to her, but things get complicated -- Shema only knows part of his story.
