Colonel Keith Wallace Woodhouse served in the European theatre and was posted in Ireland during World War II. This self-published book contains diary entries as well as letters and telegraphs written to his wife Elinor in Independence, Iowa, between 1942-1945. Appended at the end is a description and photos of a trip made to Ireland in 2012 by two of Colonel Woodhouse's children, Thomas Woodhouse and Kay Gilcher, and their spouses. The book is accompanied by a letter from the donor, Roy R. Behrens, providing information about Thomas Edwin Woodhouse. A photocopy from the April 8, 1951, Cedar Rapids Gazette describes how Woodhouse, at age 11, won a contest to select the name of a Cedar Rapids elementary school: Grant Wood School.
