Summary:
In northern India, in a poor town in Uttar Pradesh, is La Ruelle where prostitutes work. Gowri, Kavita, Bholi live there, as well as Veena and Chinti, her ten-year-old daughter whom she does not manage to love but whom the women of the neighborhood have taken under their wing. Mainly Sadhana. She does not prostitute herself and lives apart, in a house occupied by the hijras, these women whom society fears and rejects because they were born in male bodies. her community, she watches over Chinti. Their destinies are turned upside down the day one of Veena's clients, Shivnath, a swami, a man of God who in his temple loves to be worshiped, falls in love with Chinti and kidnaps her. Convinced of having found Kali's daughter capable of making him divine, he takes her on a pilgrimage to Benares. How would he suspect that in his footsteps, two representatives of the lowest castes, a whore and a hijra, Veena and Sadhana, left to find Chinti, and kill him?
