In 1854, a seventeen-year-old Irish girl answers a mail-order bride ad in order to get herself and her younger brother off the Boston streets, and fears meeting her Swedish husband-to-be in frontier Minnesota, who expects her to be twenty-five, Swedish, experienced on a farm, a virgin--and alone.
